The law of restitution was propounded by —

The 'Law of Restitution' (also known as the Law of Replacement) was formulated by Justus von Liebig in 1840.
The law asserts that in order to sustain soil productivity indefinitely, the mineral nutrient elements removed from the soil by harvested crops must be returned (restituted) in equivalent amounts.
Liebig is also famous for propounding the 'Law of the Minimum' (1840).
Thus, the law of restitution was propounded by J. Von Liebig (Option 4).

(Law of Restitution / Law of Replacement)

The concept of critical soil test level was given by —

The concept and statistical/graphical methodology of determining 'Critical Soil Test Levels' was developed by R.B. Cate and L.A. Nelson in 1965.
The Cate-Nelson method divides soil test calibration data into two distinct groups:
Below critical level: High probability of significant crop yield response to fertilizer.
Above critical level: Low probability of economic response.
Muhr established soil test rating limits for Indian soils, and Mitscherlich formulated mathematical yield equations.
Therefore, the concept of critical soil test level was given by Cate and Nelson (Option 3).

Blue-green algae is also known as —

Blue-green algae (BGA) are photosynthetic prokaryotic organisms belonging to the taxonomic phylum/division Cyanophyta (or Cyanobacteria).
They contain chlorophyll a, c-phycocyanin (blue pigment), and allophycocyanin, and many species fix nitrogen in specialized thick-walled cells called heterocysts (e.g., Nostoc, Anabaena).
Chlorophyta are green algae, Xanthophyta are yellow-green algae, and Diatoms belong to Bacillariophyta.
Thus, blue-green algae is also known as Cyanophyta (Option 4).

Yellowing of older leaves is a main symptom of ____ deficiency —

Nitrogen is highly mobile within plant tissues.
Under nitrogen starvation, plants hydrolyze stored proteins and re-translocate nitrogen from older basal leaves to support active young growing shoots.
Consequently, older leaves experience chlorophyll degradation and display uniform yellowing (chlorosis), characteristically starting from the leaf tip and progressing along the midrib in a V-shaped pattern.
Iron and manganese are immobile, showing symptoms on young leaves; magnesium causes interveinal chlorosis.
Therefore, yellowing of older leaves is the main symptom of Nitrogen deficiency (Option 2).
