MCQ (Single Correct) +1 −0.33

From the following, Plant elements that provide basic structure to the plant are :

N, P and S N, P और S C, H and O C, H और O K, Ca and Mg K, Ca और Mg Fe, Mn and Zn Fe, Mn और Zn

Carbon (C), Hydrogen (H), and Oxygen (O) are known as the framework or structural elements of plants, constituting approximately 94% to 96% of total plant dry matter.
These elements are obtained naturally from air ($CO_2$) and water ($H_2O$) through photosynthesis and form the cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin skeleton of plant bodies.
N, P, and S are primary/secondary energy storage and protein-building nutrients, whereas K, Ca, and Mg act as enzyme activators and cellular regulators.
Hence, C, H, and O are the basic structural elements (Option 2).

MCQ (Single Correct) +1 −0.33

Which soil micro-organism is responsible for nitrification ?

Nitrification is the biological conversion of ammonium ($NH_4^+$) to nitrate ($NO_3^-$) in two successive steps mediated by obligate chemoautotrophic bacteria.
In Step 1, Nitrosomonas oxidizes ammonium to nitrite: $2NH_4^+ + 3O_2 \xrightarrow{\text{Nitrosomonas}} 2NO_2^- + 2H_2O + 4H^+ + \text{energy}$. In Step 2, Nitrobacter oxidizes nitrite to nitrate.
Rhizobium and Azotobacter are symbiotic and free-living nitrogen-fixing bacteria, respectively; Pseudomonas is involved in denitrification.
Hence, Nitrosomonas is responsible for nitrification (Option 1).

MCQ (Single Correct) +1 −0.33

Which of the following is an example of 1 : 1 type clay mineral ?

Layer silicate minerals are classified based on the ratio of silica tetrahedral sheets to alumina octahedral sheets.
In 1 : 1 type minerals like Kaolinite (and Halloysite), one silica tetrahedral sheet is bound to one alumina octahedral sheet by strong hydrogen bonds, resulting in a fixed, non-expanding crystal lattice with low CEC ($3-15\text{ cmol}(p^+)\text{kg}^{-1}$).
Montmorillonite and Vermiculite are 2 : 1 expanding minerals, while Illite is a 2 : 1 non-expanding mineral with inter-layer potassium ions.
Hence, Kaolinite is a 1 : 1 type clay mineral (Option 2).

MCQ (Single Correct) +1 −0.33

Which among the following pair of districts is more affected by waterlogging (sem) ?

Ganganagar and Hanumangarh गंगानगर एवं हनुमानगढ़ Jaisalmer and Nagaur जैसलमेर एवं नागौर Jaipur and Sikar जयपुर एवं सीकर Churu and Bhilwara चूरू एवं भीलवाड़ा

'Sem' (waterlogging) refers to extreme waterlogging accompanied by subsurface soil salinization and alkalinization.
In Rajasthan, the command areas of the Indira Gandhi Canal Project (IGNP) and Gang Canal in Hanumangarh and Ganganagar districts are the most severely impacted.
The presence of an impermeable subsurface hardpan of gypsum prevents deep percolation of excess irrigation water, causing water table rise and swamping agricultural lands (e.g. Badopal village in Hanumangarh).
Hence, Ganganagar and Hanumangarh is the most affected district pair (Option 1).
