Q.3

RPSC Assistant Agriculture Officer 2011 (Q.57)

MCQ (Single Correct) +3 −1

Most economic method of irrigation in orchard under water scarcity conditions is :

Drip (trickle) irrigation is universally acknowledged as the most water-efficient and economic method of irrigating fruit orchards under severe water scarcity.
It applies water drop-by-drop directly into the root zone of individual trees at a controlled discharge rate (2 to 10 liters/hour), minimizing evaporation and eliminating deep percolation losses.
Drip systems achieve high water application efficiency (90% to 95%) and save 50% to 70% of irrigation water compared to surface flooding.
It also allows precise fertigation (applying soluble fertilizers through irrigation water). Thus, Drip system (Option 1) is correct.
