- Sheet erosion (b) is the uniform removal of a thin layer of topsoil by surface runoff, often unnoticed by farmers (creeping death of soil).
- Rill erosion (c) forms tiny finger-like channels that can still be smoothed by tillage, which if neglected advance into non-crossable Gully erosion (a).
- जल अपरदन (Water erosion) चार क्रमिक चरणों में संपन्न होता है: स्फुर/बूंद अपरदन (Splash) -> शीट/परत अपरदन (Sheet) -> रिल अपरदन (Rill) -> गली/अवनालिका अपरदन (Gully)।
