Growing mustard with cabbage as a trap crop is used to attract which insect?

In the integrated pest management (IPM) of cabbage and cauliflower, Indian mustard (Brassica juncea) is planted as an effective trap crop specifically to divert and trap the Diamondback Moth (DBM - Plutella xylostella L.).
Standard practice involves planting two rows of bold-seeded mustard after every 25 rows of cabbage. The first mustard row is sown 15 days prior to cabbage transplanting, and the second row 25 days after transplanting.
DBM adults have an overwhelming ovipositional preference for mustard foliage over cabbage. Over $80-90\%$ of the DBM egg population is deposited on the mustard trap rows, which can then be selectively sprayed with a short-residual insecticide (e.g., dichlorvos) without contaminating the main cabbage crop.
Hence, mustard traps the Diamond Back moth.

Raking the soil on the side of trees would destroy large number of over wintering pupae of which insect in mango orchard?

The Oriental Fruit Fly (Bactrocera dorsalis Hendel, Diptera: Tephritidae) is one of the most destructive pests of ripening mangoes.
Full-grown maggots exit the infested, rotting fruits, drop to the ground, and burrow 5 to 10 cm deep into the soil beneath the tree canopy to transform into barrel-shaped puparia and undergo overwintering/diapause.
Raking, hoeing, or deep ploughing the soil around the tree basin during autumn/winter exposes these subterranean pupae to direct desiccation by hot sunlight and heavy predation by insectivorous birds, ants, and ground beetles, drastically reducing adult emergence in the subsequent season.
Bark-eating caterpillar pupates inside its woody boring tunnel behind frass webs on the trunk, not in the ground.

Who gave Phases Theory of Locust?

Fr. Newton रेव.

Sir Boris Petrovich Uvarov formulated the groundbreaking 'Phase Theory of Locusts' in 1921, resolving the long-standing mystery of why solitary grasshoppers periodically transform into devastating migratory swarms.
Uvarov proved that locusts (such as the Desert Locust, Schistocerca gregaria) exist in two principal reversible phases driven by population density:
Phase solitaria: individuals live scattered, cryptically green-colored, inactive, and harmless.
Phase gregaria: high crowding triggers tactile stimulation, transforming nymphs into brightly yellow/black patterned, hyperactive, gregarious hoppers that form massive migratory adult swarms.
Karl von Frisch decoded the waggle dance communication in honey bees; Rev. Father Newton designed the popular Indian Langstroth movable-frame beehive (Newton hive).
Hence, the Phase Theory was given by Uvarov.

The species of Eri silkworm is -

The Eri silkworm (also known as Endi / Errandi silk moth) belongs to the scientific species 'Philosamia ricini' (synonym: Samia cynthia ricini / Samia ricini, family Saturniidae).
The name 'Eri' is derived from the Assamese word 'Era' meaning Castor (Ricinus communis), which serves as its primary food host plant, supplemented by Kesseru (Heteropanax fragrans).
Unlike mulberry silk, Eri cocoons are open-ended and cannot be reeled continuously; they are spun into soft, durable, wool-like textured silk (famous as 'Ahimsa Silk' because the moth emerges naturally without killing the pupa).
Bombyx mori is the domesticated mulberry silkworm; Antheraea mylitta / paphia is the tropical Tasar silkworm; Antheraea assamensis is the golden Muga silkworm.

MCQ (Single Correct) +1 −0.33

Pest population level at which management action should be taken -

EIL ई.आई. Gain threshold गेन थ्रेशोल्ड

According to the foundational IPM framework established by Stern, Smith, van den Bosch, and Hagen (1959):
- Economic Threshold Level (ETL, also called Action Threshold) is defined as the 'pest population density at which management control action must be initiated' to prevent an increasing pest population from reaching the Economic Injury Level ($ETL \lt EIL$).

Economic Injury Level (EIL) is the lowest population density of a pest that will cause economic damage (where value of yield loss equals cost of control: $EIL = \frac{C}{V \cdot I \cdot D \cdot K}$).
Gain Threshold is the minimum yield increase required to pay for the cost of pest control: $\text{Gain Threshold} = \frac{\text{Cost of Control (\$/ha)}}{\text{Market Price of Commodity (\$/kg)}}$.
Thus, the action-triggering population level is ETL.
