MCQ (Single Correct) +1 −0.33

Which is the most easy and popular method of planting of fruit plants?

The Square System is universally acknowledged as the easiest, simplest, and most widely adopted layout system for establishing commercial fruit orchards.
In this system, trees are planted at four corners of a square where row-to-row ($R \times R$) and plant-to-plant ($P \times P$) distances are identical ($R = P$).
Its key advantages include effortless layout in the field, uniform sunlight intercept, and convenient cross-cultivation and tractor intercultural operations in two perpendicular directions.
Hexagonal accommodates $15\%$ more trees than square system but is difficult to lay out; Quincunx accommodates an extra temporary filler tree in the centre of each square; Contour system is restricted to sloping/hilly terrain.

'Surya' is an advanced gynodioecious hybrid variety of Papaya (Carica papaya L.) developed and released by the Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR), Hessaraghatta, Bengaluru.
It was bred from an intervarietal cross between 'Sunrise Solo' and 'Pink Flesh Sweet'.
The plants produce medium-sized fruits (600-800 g) with deep red, thick, juicy flesh, high total soluble solids (TSS 13.5-15% Brix), good keeping quality, and no male plants in the progeny.
Other prominent papaya varieties include Pusa Delicious, Pusa Dwarf, Coorg Honey Dew, and Taiwan 786.

MCQ (Single Correct) +1 −0.33

Shoot gall maker is a pest of -

The Shoot Gall Maker / Shoot Gall Caterpillar (Betousa stylophora Swinhoe, order Lepidoptera, family Thyrididae) is a specific and economically damaging insect pest of Aonla / Indian gooseberry (Emblica officinalis Gaertn.).
The larva bores into tender growing apical shoots and secretes irritating substances that stimulate abnormal cell hypertrophy and hyperplasia, forming characteristic woody, swollen galls on the shoots.
Infested shoot tips wither, curl, and die beyond the gall, stunting vegetative growth and dramatically reducing fruit-bearing capacity.
Other major aonla pests include bark-eating caterpillar (Indarbela quadrinotata) and aonla aphid (Cerciaphis emblica).

Selective and complete removal of the part of plant is termed as -

Thinning (or 'Thinning out') in horticultural pruning is defined as the selective and entire removal of an unwanted shoot, branch, twig, or limb from its point of origin (leaving no stub), opening up the canopy for light penetration.
In contrast, 'Heading back' (topping) refers to cutting off the terminal portions of twigs or branches while leaving the basal portion intact to stimulate lateral branching.
Notching is making a wedge-shaped notch above a dormant bud to arrest the upward flow of sap and stimulate vegetative shoot growth (practiced in fig).
Nicking is making a cut below a bud to accumulate carbohydrates and stimulate flower bud differentiation.
