EXPLANATION
- Khaira disease of rice is a widely known physiological disorder caused by Zinc ($Zn$) deficiency in wetland paddy soils.
- It was first discovered and reported in India by eminent plant pathologist Dr. Y.L. Nene in 1966 at the Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUA&T), Pantnagar, Tarai region.
- Symptoms appear 2-3 weeks after transplanting, characterized by chlorosis between veins of young leaves, followed by reddish-brown or bronze pigmentation and severely stunted plant growth.
- It is controlled by foliar spraying of 5 kg zinc sulphate ($ZnSO_4$) + 2.5 kg slaked lime in 1000 liters of water per hectare. Thus, Zinc (Option 1) is correct.
