Statement (I) : Capillary rise is responsible for loss of water from soil by evaporation.
Statement (II) : Retention of water by soil against gravitation pull depends on two surface forces, namely; cohesion and adhesion.

कथन (I) : वाष्पीकरण द्वारा मृदा से जल की हानि के लिए केशिकीय चढ़ाव (Capillary rise) उत्तरदायी है।
कथन (II) : गुरुत्वाकर्षण खिंचाव के विरुद्ध मृदा द्वारा जल का धारण दो सतही बलों अर्थात संसंजन (Cohesion) और आसंजन (Adhesion) पर निर्भर करता है।
उपरोक्त कथनों के आलोक में, नीचे दिए गए विकल्पों में से सबसे उपयुक्त उत्तर चुनें :
Both statements are true:
- Statement (I): Upward capillary movement transports water from subsurface moist layers to the dry evaporating soil surface, driving continuous evaporative loss until the capillary continuity is broken by mulching or surface tillage.
- Statement (II): Soil retains water against gravitational drainage via matric suction governed by adhesion (attraction between soil solid surfaces and water molecules) and cohesion (attraction among water molecules themselves, giving rise to surface tension).
दोनों कथन सत्य हैं:
- कथन (I): मिट्टी की निचली परतों से केशिकीय क्रिया द्वारा पानी ऊपर सतह पर आता है और वाष्पीकृत होकर उड़ता रहता है।
- कथन (II): गुरुत्वाकर्षण के विपरीत मिट्टी द्वारा जल का रोका जाना आसंजन (Adhesion - मिट्टी कणों व जल अणुओं के बीच आकर्षण) और संसंजन (Cohesion - जल अणुओं का आपस में आकर्षण) बलों के कारण होता है।
