In teleosts, Final Oocyte Maturation (FOM) and ovulation are driven by the pre-ovulatory surge of Luteinizing Hormone (LH) secreted by pituitary gonadotropes.
LH acts on ovarian follicular cells to stimulate synthesis of the Maturation-Inducing Hormone (MIH, typically $17\alpha,20\beta$-dihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one / $17\alpha,20\beta$-DHP), which activates Maturation-Promoting Factor (MPF) to trigger germinal vesicle breakdown (GVBD).
