Q.1

ICAR 2023Shift 1 Statement Based +4 −1

Given below are two statements

Statement (I) : One of the important principles of rural journalism is to organise the write-up like an inverted pyramid, keeping the most important information at the top.

Statement (II) : In rural journalism, it is important to explain technical terms in short and simple sentences, using common words that have concrete meaning.

In light of the above statements, choose the most appropriate answer from the options given below:

Both Statement (I) and Statement (II) are correct. Both Statement (I) and Statement (II) are incorrect. Statement (I) is correct but Statement (II) is incorrect. Statement (I) is incorrect but Statement (II) is correct.

Analysis of rural journalistic principles:

Statement (I) is CORRECT: The inverted pyramid format is the standard in print journalism and rural reporting. The lead paragraph addresses the core 5 Ws and 1 H (Who, What, Where, When, Why, How), placing the critical actionable message at the top so readers grasp the essence immediately even if they read only the first few sentences.
Statement (II) is CORRECT: Rural readers often have basic functional literacy. Effective rural journalism avoids dense scientific jargon, explains technical agricultural concepts in plain language, uses concrete local analogies, and adheres to the Flesch readability guideline of short, active sentences.

Therefore, both Statement (I) and Statement (II) are correct.
