Watershed hierarchy and management planning:
According to the guidelines of the Ministry of Rural Development, ICAR-IISWC, and the All India Soil and Land Use Survey (AISLUS):

• Micro-watershed: 500 to 1,000 ha.
• Mini-watershed: 1,000 to 5,000 ha.
• Sub-watershed: 5,000 to 50,000 ha.

For comprehensive land management, participatory soil and water conservation planning, and field-level developmental treatments, the micro-watershed (500 ha to 1,000 ha) is internationally and nationally accepted as the most viable operational unit.
