MCQ (Single Correct) +1 −0.33

Which is not a feature in conjugation of isogamous planogametes type of sexual reproduction?

Gametes are morphologically similar but physiologically different Unite in water to form zygote It appears in Olpidium viciae One planogamete is larger than other

In isogamy, gametes are morphologically indistinguishable from each other, but compatible (+ and -) mating types differ physiologically.
Flagellated naked planogametes swim in a film of water and fuse to form a motile or encysted zygote.
Isogamous planogametic copulation is characteristic of primitive chytrids such as Olpidium viciae and Synchytrium.
In isogamous fusion, both gametes are equal in size and shape; one gamete being larger than the other is the diagnostic feature of anisogamy (heterogamy), NOT isogamy. Therefore, this statement is false.

Hence, the correct option is (D).
