- Weather denotes the day-to-day or short-term state of the atmosphere (temperature, rainfall, humidity, wind) over a specific local area.
- Climate represents the long-term aggregate statistical pattern of weather conditions over a region.
- According to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and IPCC, 'climate change' is scientifically defined as statistically significant, long-term shifts in mean weather parameters and weather extremes persisting over extended periods of at least 30 years or more.
- Diurnal, weekly, or monthly atmospheric fluctuations represent weather variability, not climate change.
Hence, climate change means long term (more than 30 years) changes in weather parameters (Option 4).
- मौसम (Weather) किसी स्थान विशेष के वायुमंडल की अल्पकालिक (दैनिक या प्रति घंटे) अवस्था जैसे तापमान, वर्षा, हवा आदि को कहते हैं।
- जलवायु (Climate) किसी विस्तृत भूभाग के मौसम की दीर्घकालिक सांख्यिकीय औसत दशाओं का समुच्चय है।
- विश्व मौसम विज्ञान संगठन (WMO) तथा आईपीसीसी के अनुसार कम से कम 30 वर्ष या उससे अधिक की मानक अवधि में मौसमी औसत और प्रतिरूपों में होने वाले स्थायी बदलाव को 'जलवायु परिवर्तन' (Climate change) कहा जाता है।
- दैनिक, साप्ताहिक या मासिक परिवर्तन केवल मौसमी उतार-चढ़ाव (Weather variability) हैं।
अतः जलवायु परिवर्तन का अर्थ मौसम मापदंडों में दीर्घकालिक (30 वर्ष से अधिक) परिवर्तन है (विकल्प 4)।
