Q.6

RPSC Agriculture Research Officer (Entomology) - 2022 - Principles of Insect Systematics & Taxonomy (Q.61)

MCQ (Single Correct) +1 −0.33

In which period, wingless insects are supposed to be evolved?

Fossil evidence, notably Rhyniella praecursor from the famous Rhynie chert of Scotland, proves that primitive wingless hexapods (apterygote insects) first evolved during the Devonian period (approximately 400 to 415 million years ago).

Devonian period: Age during which the earliest primitive wingless insects evolved.
Silurian period: Period marking earliest terrestrial arthropod colonization (millipedes/arachnids).
Ordovician period: Marine invertebrate radiation preceding land colonization.
Carboniferous period: The 'Age of Insects' when winged insects radiated dramatically.

Hence, the correct option is (A).

The Entomological Society of India (ESI) was founded in 1938 during the silver jubilee meeting of the Indian Science Congress at Calcutta.
Mian Mohammad Afzal Husain (Afzal Hussain), then Vice-Chancellor of Punjab University and prominent locust entomologist, was elected as the society's First President.
Dr. Hem Singh Pruthi (H.S. Pruthi), Imperial Entomologist at IARI, was elected as the first General Secretary and Editor of the Indian Journal of Entomology.
T.V. Ramakrishna Ayyar was an eminent South Indian pioneer who authored the first major regional handbook on economic entomology.

Hence, the First President of the Entomological Society of India was Afzal Hussain (Option 3).

Q.9

RPSC Agriculture Research Officer (Entomology) - 2014 - Principles of Insect Systematics & Taxonomy (Q.24)

MCQ (Single Correct) +1 −0.33

The first edition of 'Systema Naturae' was published in the year -

1725 1725 1735 1735 1745 1745 1755 1755

'Systema Naturae' is the landmark work of Swedish naturalist Carolus Linnaeus (Carl von Linné) that laid the foundations of modern biological taxonomy.
The 1st edition (First Edition) was a slim 11-page folio published in the Netherlands in 1735.
The 10th edition (published in 1758) introduced consistent binomial nomenclature for animals and is established by the ICZN as the official starting point for zoological nomenclature.
Linnaeus was only 28 years old when he published the first edition in 1735.

Hence, the first edition of Systema Naturae was published in 1735 (Option 2).

O.W. Richards and R.G. Davies ओ. A.D. Imms and O.W. Richards ए. रिचर्ड्स O.W. Richards and R.C. Davies ओ. Richards and R.G. Davies ओ.

Augustus Daniel Imms (A.D. Imms) published the first edition of 'A General Textbook of Entomology' in 1925, which became the classical global entomological bible.
Following Imms' death in 1949, subsequent major modern revisions were undertaken by eminent British entomologists Owain Westmacott Richards (O.W. Richards) and Richard Gareth Davies (R.G. Davies).
The landmark 10th edition, published in 1977 as two comprehensive volumes (Volume 1: Structure, Physiology and Development; Volume 2: Classification and Biology), was authored and extensively rewritten by O.W. Richards and R.G. Davies.

Hence, the 10th edition was authored by O.W. Richards and R.G. Davies (Option 1).
