Q37: Viral disease 'katte' is main problem in - - Spice Crops Production - RPSC Agriculture Research Officer (Horticulture) Screening Test - 2015 | Agrigyan
'Katte' or 'Marble disease' (mosaic disease) is the most destructive viral disease affecting Small Cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum Maton, 'Queen of Spices').
It is caused by the Cardamom mosaic virus (CdMV, a member of the genus Macluravirus, family Potyviridae) and is transmitted non-persistently by the banana aphid (Pentalonia nigronervosa f. sp. caladii).
Symptoms include continuous chlorotic stripes on young leaves, stunted tillering, and clump decline.
Hence, Katte disease is the main problem in cardamom (Option 1).
