RSSB Agriculture Supervisor Exam 2018

MCQ (Single Correct)

Which among the following is an example of a biennial weed ?

Biennial weeds require two growing seasons to complete their ontogenetic life cycle (vegetative growth in year 1, flowering and seed setting in year 2).
The paper printed 'Cichorium intybus' (Kasni) intending Option 4 as biennial (alongside wild carrot Daucus carota).
However, under Indian agricultural conditions, Cichorium intybus behaves strictly as a winter annual weed in Berseem crops, while in temperate climates it behaves as a perennial.
Concurrently, Cynodon dactylon and Cyperus rotundus are perennials, and Avena fatua is an annual.
Due to conflicting ecological lifecycle classifications of Cichorium intybus across Indian agronomy textbooks, the Rajasthan Staff Selection Board (RSSB) officially DELETED this question from the final answer key (*).

MCQ (Single Correct)

Spray of atrazine in low concentration acts as which type of antitranspirant ?

Antitranspirants are materials applied to transpiring plant surfaces to reduce water loss via transpiration without significantly restricting carbon dioxide assimilation.
They are classified into four distinct physiological groups:
Stomatal Closing type: Phenylmercuric acetate (PMA), Atrazine (in sub-lethal concentrations \(\lt 1000\text{ ppm}\) or \(10^{-3}\text{ to }10^{-4}\text{ M}\)), and Abscisic acid (ABA).
Film Forming type: Mobileaf, Waxol, Cetyl alcohol, Silicones.
Reflectant type: Kaolin (5%), Lime wash.
Growth Retardant type: Cycocel (CCC).
Therefore, sub-lethal Atrazine induces partial stomatal closure, making Option 4 correct.

MCQ (Single Correct)

Which of the following chemicals is used to break the dormancy of potato seed tubers ?

Freshly harvested potato tubers (Solanum tuberosum) possess a natural endo-dormancy period lasting 8 to 10 weeks, during which eye buds will not sprout even under ideal moisture and temperature.
To break this dormancy for immediate autumn planting, cut seed tubers are soaked in a \(1\%\) aqueous solution of Thiourea (\(\text{CS(NH}_2)_2\)) for 1 hour, often combined with Gibberellic Acid (\(\text{GA}_3\) @ \(1\text{ ppm}\)).
Agallol and Aretan are organomercurial fungicides used for sett disinfection (sugarcane/potato), NOT dormancy breaking.
Hence, Thiourea is the standard dormancy breaking chemical (Option 3).

MCQ (Single Correct)

Which of the following type of fertilizers is mostly exported from our country ?

India is a major net importer of chemical fertilizers:
Potassic fertilizers (MOP/SOP): 100% imported due to complete absence of commercially mineable potash reserves.
Phosphatic fertilizers (DAP/SSP rock): 80% to 90% imported (either as raw rock phosphate or finished DAP).
Nitrogenous fertilizers (Urea): 20% to 25% imported.
The premise that India 'mostly exports' major fertilizers is factually flawed. While India exports modest quantities of customized micronutrient mixtures (like zinc chelates) to neighboring countries, none of the primary fertilizer classes are exported on a large scale.
Recognizing that the question was factually flawed and misleading, the Rajasthan Staff Selection Board (RSSB) officially DELETED this question from the final answer key (*).

MCQ (Single Correct)

Percent sulphur in ordinary Single Super Phosphate (SSP) is :

24 % 24 % 12 % 12 % 18 % 18 % 21 % 21 %

Single Superphosphate (SSP), manufactured by reacting rock phosphate with sulphuric acid, is the oldest commercial chemical fertilizer manufactured in India (first produced at Ranipet, Tamil Nadu in 1906).
Standard guaranteed nutrient composition of SSP:
Available Phosphorus (\(\text{P}_2\text{O}_5\)): \(16.0\%\). (2) Sulphur (\(\text{S}\)): \(12.0\%\). (3) Calcium (\(\text{Ca}\)): \(19.5\%\text{ to }21.0\%\).
Because it provides 12% secondary nutrient Sulphur alongside 16% Phosphorus, SSP is exceptionally valuable for oilseed and pulse crops.
Hence, SSP contains 12% sulphur (Option 2).
