A weed that depends partially or fully for its Growth on its host plant is called as :
- Parasitic weeds attach to the root or shoot vascular systems of host crops via specialized structures called haustoria to derive water, mineral nutrients, and carbohydrates.
- They are classified into: Total Stem Parasite (Cuscuta), Partial Stem Parasite (Loranthus), Total Root Parasite (Orobanche), and Partial Root Parasite (Striga).
- Obligate weeds occur only in cultivated or disturbed lands; Noxious weeds are difficult-to-control plants designated by law; Alien weeds are introduced non-native species.
- Hence, a weed dependent on a host plant is a Parasitic weed (Option 1).
