- Tympanitis (commonly known as Bloat or Afara) is acute ruminal tympany characterized by abnormal distension of the rumen due to trapped fermentation gases.
- It is caused by excessive ingestion of succulent, immature, lush green leguminous forages (such as young berseem, lucerne, or clover) rich in soluble proteins and saponins that create persistent stable froth in the rumen.
- The left flank becomes severely swollen and drum-like, causing respiratory distress and death if not relieved by a trocar and cannula or anti-foaming agents (turpentine oil, silicone).
- Milk fever is acute hypocalcemia post-calving, and ketosis is an energy metabolism disorder.
- टिम्पेनाइटिस (Tympanitis / अफारा या ब्लोट) पशुओं में रूमेन का एक गंभीर विकार है जिसमें किण्वन से उत्पन्न गैसें बाहर नहीं निकल पातीं और पेट अत्यधिक फूल जाता है।
- यह विकार अत्यधिक रसीला, ओस से भीगा अथवा कोमल दलहनी हरा चारा (जैसे बरसीम, रिजका आदि) ज्यादा मात्रा में खाने से होता है, क्योंकि इसमें उपस्थित घुलनशील प्रोटीन व सैपोनिन रूमेन में झागदार गैस बना देते हैं।
- पशु की बाईं कोख ढोल की तरह फूल जाती है और सांस लेने में कठिनाई होती है।
- इसके त्वरित उपचार हेतु ट्रोकार-कैनुला (Trocar and Cannula) द्वारा गैस निकाली जाती है अथवा तारपीन का तेल व अलसी का तेल दिया जाता है।
