- Agrotis ipsilon (Black cutworm, family Noctuidae, order Lepidoptera) is a destructive soil-dwelling pest of gram (chickpea, Cicer arietinum), potato, and various winter rabi seedlings.
- The caterpillar is nocturnal, hiding in the topsoil or under clods during the daytime and emerging at night to cut down young seedlings at the ground level, often dragging plant parts into underground burrows.
- Major insect pests of castor include castor semilooper (Achaea janata) and castor shoot and capsule borer (Conogethes punctiferalis).
- Sugarcane is attacked by top borer (Scirpophaga excerptalis) and shoot borer (Chilo infuscatellus), while pomegranate is attacked by the anar butterfly (Deudorix isocrates).
