- Etiolation is the physiological technique of excluding light from growing shoot tissues, causing them to develop pale, succulent, non-green juvenile stems with reduced sclerenchymatous fiber rings and higher endogenous auxins.
- Excluding light from the basal portion of shoot cuttings dramatically increases adventitious root formation and rooting percentage in difficult-to-root woody fruit and ornamental plants (such as mango, avocado, and apple rootstocks).
- Banding refers to localized wrapping of a stem segment with opaque tape or velcro.
- Shading reduces ambient sunlight across the entire plant or nursery bed without causing complete shoot etiolation.
- कटिंग के आधार भाग को अंधकार में रखकर (प्रकाश से वंचित कर) तने के ऊतकों को कोमल व अविकसित बनाए रखने की क्रिया को इटियोलेशन (Etiolation) कहते हैं।
- प्रकाश न मिलने से तने में लिग्निन का जमाव कम होता है और ऑक्सिन की सक्रियता बढ़ जाती है, जिससे कठिनता से जड़ें बनाने वाले काष्ठीय पौधों में शीघ्र और प्रचुर अपस्थानिक जड़ें फूटती हैं।
- बैन्डिंग (Banding) तने के किसी छोटे हिस्से पर काली पट्टी बांधना है।
- शेडिंग (Shading) नर्सरी पर छाया करना है। अतः आधार से प्रकाश वंचित करना इटियोलेशन कहलाता है।
