- Black Quarter (BQ), also known as Blackleg, Zeharbad, or Langda Bukhar, is an acute, fatal, soil-borne infectious bacterial disease primarily affecting young Cattle (aged 6 months to 2 years) and sheep.
- It is caused by the anaerobic spore-forming rod-shaped bacterium Clostridium chauvoei.
- Characteristic symptoms include high fever, acute lameness, and hot, painful, emphysematous swellings over the heavy muscle quarters (thigh, shoulder, rump) that yield a distinct crepitating (crackling) sound upon palpation due to subcutaneous gas formation.
- Upon incision, the muscle appears dry, blackened, and emits a characteristic rancid butter odor. Thus, BQ is a disease of Cattle (Option 3).
- ब्लैक क्वार्टर (Black Quarter - BQ), जिसे जहरबाद, लंगड़ा बुखार या कृष्णजंघा भी कहते हैं, मुख्य रूप से गोवंश (Cattle) और भेड़ों का एक तीव्र, जानलेवा जीवाणु जनित रोग है।
- यह रोग क्लॉस्ट्रिडियम चौवोई (Clostridium chauvoei) नामक अवायवीय बीजाणुधारी जीवाणु द्वारा होता है।
- इसमें पशु के पुट्ठों, कंधे व गर्दन की भारी मांसपेशियों में सूजन आ जाती है, जिसे दबाने पर गैस के कारण चरचराहट (Crepitating sound) की आवाज आती है तथा पशु लंगड़ा कर चलता है।
- अतः ब्लैक क्वार्टर मुख्य रूप से गोवंश (विकल्प 3) की बीमारी है।
