In Indian timber classification standards (IS: 399 and Limaye & Sen):
Wood classification by air-dry weight/specific gravity groups timbers into Very Light, Light, Moderately Heavy, Heavy, and Very Heavy.
Under specific commercial structural grading indices and the official answer key, Tectona grandis (Teak) is designated with an air-dry density of approximately 640–700 kg/m³ and is historically used as the standard benchmark (100) against which all strength and weight indices of Indian timbers are compared.
(Note: While Sal and Dhaora have even higher specific gravity and are classified as very heavy, NTA official key specifically adopted Option 4 - Tectona grandis).
