Sh. Pamulaparthi Venkata Narasimha Rao (9th Prime Minister of India, 1991–1996) is widely acclaimed as the 'Father of Indian Economic Reforms'.
Upon assuming office in June 1991 during a severe balance of payments crisis, he provided the bold political vision, legislative backing, and decisive leadership to dismantle the 'License Raj', open up the Indian economy to foreign direct investment (FDI), and implement sweeping LPG (Liberalisation, Privatisation, and Globalisation) reforms, with Dr. Manmohan Singh serving as his Finance Minister and technical architect.
