When sampling from a normal population where the population variance $\sigma^2$ is KNOWN, the standardized test statistic is:
$$Z = \frac{\bar{X} - \mu_0}{\sigma / \sqrt{n}} \sim N(0, 1)$$This statistic follows the standard normal distribution exactly, regardless of whether the sample size $n$ is large or small. Therefore, the Z-test is strictly appropriate.
Student's t-test is used specifically when $\sigma^2$ is unknown and estimated by the sample variance $s^2$.
F-test is used for comparing two variances or multiple means in ANOVA.
Chi-square test is used for testing population variance or goodness of fit.
