MCQ (Single Correct)

Diamond back moth attacks is found in which crops?

Diamondback moth (Plutella xylostella L., family Plutellidae, order Lepidoptera) is the single most destructive pest of cruciferous crops (family Brassicaceae / Cruciferae), including cabbage, cauliflower, knol-khol, broccoli, radish, and mustard worldwide.
The young larvae mine into the leaf tissue, while older larvae feed on the lower surface of leaves leaving the upper epidermal layer intact, creating transparent 'window pane' symptoms that cause substantial leaf skeletonization and head damage.
Cereals like wheat and barley are attacked by pests such as aphids (Rhopalosiphum padi), armyworms (Mythimna separata), and termites (Odontotermes obesus).
Gram (chickpea) is primarily infested by Helicoverpa armigera and cutworms (Agrotis ipsilon).

MCQ (Single Correct)

The is a chart or map on which distribution of selected meteorological elements over a large area, at specified instant of time is represented.

Synoptic Chart (derived from the Greek word 'synopsis', meaning a general view together) is a specialized meteorological map that displays the simultaneous weather conditions and atmospheric elements (pressure, temperature, wind, precipitation) observed across a broad geographical area at a specific instant of time.
In India, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) prepares surface synoptic charts twice daily based on standard synchronous observations (08:30 IST and 17:30 IST), plotting isobars, fronts, and weather symbols to formulate short-range weather forecasts.
geographical chart depicts landforms, political boundaries, or spatial physical features without representing instantaneous meteorological observations.
climate chart portrays long-term statistical averages of temperature and rainfall (climographs) over 30 or more years rather than instantaneous atmospheric states.

MCQ (Single Correct)

The erosion of soil particles between 0.1 to 0.5 mm diameter by wind is termed as :

Wind erosion occurs through three distinct physical processes based on soil particle size: Saltation, Suspension, and Surface creep.
Saltation accounts for the largest proportion (50% to 75%) of total wind erosion and involves medium-sized soil particles ranging from $0.1\text{ mm}$ to $0.5\text{ mm}$ in diameter bouncing and hopping along the soil surface.
Suspension involves very fine particles smaller than $0.1\text{ mm}$ (accounting for 3% to 4% of wind erosion) that are lifted high into the atmosphere and transported over great distances.
Surface creep involves coarse particles between $0.5\text{ mm}$ and $1.0\text{ mm}$ (accounting for 5% to 25% of wind erosion) rolling and sliding along the ground surface pushed by the impact of saltating grains.

MCQ (Single Correct)

While classifying plant adaptation to drought, which of these is not denoted as 'drought avoidance' mechanism?

Plant drought resistance is broadly classified (following Levitt's framework) into drought escape, drought avoidance, and drought tolerance.
In the official RPSC key, Option (2) 'Thick cuticle' is designated as the correct answer (not categorized as a dynamic drought avoidance response under this specific scheme, or regarded as a constitutive anatomical xerophytic feature / drought tolerance trait).
Early stomatal closure and reduced leaf area (through rolling or abscission) are classic active mechanisms by which plants reduce transpirational water loss to avoid internal water deficits.
high root to shoot (top) ratio enables plants to maximize water uptake from deeper soil profiles relative to transpirational leaf surface area, representing another cornerstone avoidance mechanism.

MCQ (Single Correct)

The seed rate (kg/ha) of multigerm varieties of sugarbeet is about :

10 10 (10 kg/ha) 15 15 (15 kg/ha) 20 20 (20 kg/ha) 25 25 (25 kg/ha)

Sugarbeet (Beta vulgaris L.) seed balls are naturally multigerm, meaning each seed ball contains 2 to 5 true seeds resulting from the fusion of flowers, which germinate to produce multiple seedlings.
The recommended seed rate for multigerm sugarbeet varieties is approximately $10\text{ kg/ha}$ (ranging from $8-10\text{ kg/ha}$), whereas monogerm varieties (producing only single seedlings per seed) require a much lower seed rate of $3-5\text{ kg/ha}$.
Thinning and singling are essential operations carried out 3-4 weeks after sowing multigerm varieties to maintain an optimum plant population of about 100,000 to 120,000 plants per hectare.
Higher seed rates exceeding $15-20\text{ kg/ha}$ lead to severe overcrowding of seedlings, escalating labor costs for manual thinning.
